Città Educante

The project develops four prototypes, each one dedicated to different groups of people. The first one is focused on kids (3-11), the second on teens (12-18), the third on students (19-25) and the last one on life-long learning. They will be set in several Italian districts (Veneto, Trentino, Emilia Romagna, Liguria and Piemonte) involving children, teachers, education coordinators, families, universities and companies.

The three main project areas (School/Education, Society, Technology) aim at the following goals:

  • bridge the digital divide gap that exists between the institutions, dedicated to education, and the digital natives. Today, more than in the past years, it’s important understanding the evolution of the relationship between society and technology, offering people the opportunity to develop their own skills. The belief behind the project Educating City is that conscious, active and critical citizenship is based on the collaboration with others, as holders of rights and duties, on the fair use of a shared cultural heritage and on the opportunities offered by contemporary culture, including digital technologies;
  • develop new models of education;
  • develop new ICT platforms, services and applications for the Educating City, supported by specific research activities in cloud computing and collaborative sourcing, social networks, automatic analysis of texts, video and 3D data, big data analysis tools, natural and interactive interfaces, robotic aids, sensors and pervasive networks, machine learning and search systems;
  • create, enjoy and share the contents of the new education environment;
  • make available to all school levels the new teaching/learning processes and related developed technologies to enable change and innovation.

In addition, Imagelab has organized the first International Master on Visual Computing and Multimedia Technologies.
